Admission instructions for international students

Applying for admission as an international student
A student applying for admission to Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi as an international student is:

  • Not a U.S. citizen nor a permanent resident of the United States.
  • A holder or prospective holder of an F-1 student visa.

Application Process - International Freshmen Students (0-29 credits)
In order to be considered for admission, you must submit the following items:

  1. A completed ApplyTexas International Freshman Application for Admission
  2. A $50.00 U.S. non-refundable application fee
  3. Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) score report - 80 (ITB)/213 (CPB)/550(PB)
  4. SAT or ACT scores, sent directly from the testing agency (SAT code number: 0366; ACT code number: 4045)
  5. Affidavit of Support (completed with U.S. currency figures only)

In addition to the items noted above, you will also need to submit your official high school transcript(s) from all international high schools attended to a University-approved evaluation agency. Once evaluated, the agency must then forward their evaluation report to the Office of Admissions.

Application Process - International Transfer Students from U.S. institutions (30+ credits)
In order to be considered for admission, you must submit the following items:

  1. A completed ApplyTexas International Transfer Application for Admission
  2. A $50.00 U.S. non-refundable application fee
  3. Official college transcript(s) from all U.S. institutions attended
  4. Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) score report - 80 (ITB)/213 (CPB)/550(PB)
  5. Affidavit of Support (completed with U.S. currency figures only)
  6. Transfer Report Form (to be completed by previous institution attended)

Application Process - International Transfer Students from international institutions (30+ credits)

Application Process - International Graduate students

Application Deadlines
To ensure full consideration, all documents and items required for admission must be submitted to the Office of Admissions by the deadlines posted below. Documents and items received after the deadline but before the beginning of regular class registration will be processed subject to available space.

  • Spring semester: September 1
  • Summer I/II semester: February 1
  • Fall semester: May 1

Admission Requirements for International Freshmen Students
All international freshmen applicants must meet the following high school academic preparedness requirements:

NOTE: It is recommended that high school students have at least 1 credit in computer literacy. Competency is required prior to graduation from Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi.

Admission Requirements for International Transfer Students
In order to meet automatic admission requirements, all international transfer applicants must have at least a cumulative grade point average of a 2.5 on a 4.0 scale and be eligible to return to the institution at which they were previously enrolled. The cumulative GPA includes all work attempted, excluding remedial, high school, or duplicate courses.

Credit for International Baccalaureate Diploma (IBD)
In keeping with Senate Bill 111, our University grants credit for International Baccalaureate (IB) exams with certain required scores to incoming freshmen students. Texas institutions of higher education must award at least 24 semester credit hours in appropriate subject areas on all IB exams with scores of 4 or above, as long as the incoming freshman has earned an IBD. Gaining Admission to A&M-Corpus Christi
An official Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi letter of acceptance will be sent when a student has been accepted for admission. International applicants should not make plans to depart for Corpus Christi until the acceptance letter and supporting documentation (I-20) has been received. Actions taken prior to the receipt of the acceptance letter are at the student's own risk.

Under no circumstances will an international student be accepted as a non-degree seeking or transient (visiting) student.

Financial Arrangements
A requirement of a student visa is the Affidavit of Support document which affirms that the student has adequate financial resources to attend a college or university in the United States. In order to attend A&M-Corpus Christi, a single student must demonstrate availability of $21,000 (U.S. currency). All appropriate financial documentation must be submitted along with the affidavit before an I-20 can be issued. Tuition, fees, books, supplies, and housing are some of the costs that require payment on the day of registration for each semester.

Please note: Our University cannot award need-based financial assistance to international students.

Health Insurance Requirements
The Texas A&M System mandates that all international students show proof of health insurance before registering for classes. The TAMUS student health insurance plans meet the minimum requirements. If a student has a personal health insurance plan, an explanation of benefits must be submitted to ensure it complies with minimum coverage.
